<p>Also, periodic home drills should be performed to make sure everyone knows where to go and to determine how long it takes to get there.</p>

<p>When warnings are issued, residents should move to that safe place as rapidly as possible.  In the event of a tornado, once the familiar “freight train” noise is heard, it may be too late.  </p>

<p> Advertisers get more bang for their buck via online viral marketing than buying a $  3 million 30-second TV ad during the Super Bowl according to a marketing expert at Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>And the new trend of pre-releasing Super Bowl commercials online before the big game is diminishing the value of the broadcast ads even more says Seethu Seetharaman.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Pre-releasing a teaser to a Super Bowl commercial certainly evokes interest for consumers to ‘anticipate’ what is going to come on Super Bowl Sunday, thus improving the quality of ad consumption,” says Seethu Seetharaman, the W. Patrick McGinnis Professor of Marketing at Olin Business School.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“But the $  3-million-dollar question is whether that Super Bowl commercial will lead to incremental buying,” he says. “Is there any significant return on investment for the $  3 million spent? I doubt it.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The average cost for a 30-second spot during this year’s Super Bowl is $  3.5 million, with some time slots costing as much as $  4 million.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>With the continuing trend toward viral commercial releases, Seetharaman advocates companies reconsider traditional television ads and focus their efforts on the Internet, saving them millions of dollars in the process.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“The return on investment for a viral ad is far greater, since it is much cheaper to get the commercial in front of viewers,” he says. “A viral campaign, at best, produces incremental sales at zero cost, and at worst, produces a lot of social conversation without any incremental sales, like a well-noticed Super Bowl ad would, but without a $  3 million spend,” he says.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Last year’s Volkswagen ad with the child dressed up as Darth Vader has been viewed online more than 50 million times.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Seetharaman says a purely online viral ad campaign, without the actual television Super Bowl component, does not impose any prohibitive costs on a company.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Water cooler conversation does not a purchase make. Just because a company spends $  3 million or more for a 30-second ad does not automatically increase purchase of their product. Viral videos are cheaper to produce and have a much longer shelf life.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The final purpose of the Super Bowl ad, Seetharaman says, is to stimulate sales, not to stimulate consumption of online videos.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Fifty million hits for the Darth Vader ad on YouTube, advertising awards etc., will only give cold comfort to VW if the YouTube hits do not end up selling more VW cars,” he says.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Take the ‘Will It Blend’ campaign from BlendTec, which was rolled out on YouTube. It not only reached online viewers running in to tens of millions, but more importantly, it increased BlendTec blender sales by 700 percent in the first few months of its rollout.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“That is what an effective promotional campaign must do.”</p>

<p> When US mobile manufacturer, Motorola, unveiled their latest handsets at the recent CES 2012 conference, users were in for a double treat. The company have created two new smartphones especially for the budget market and both devices run Motorola’s new MotoSwitch on Android. </p>

<p>MotoSwitch notes the applications and contacts that are most used by the user and groups them on the homescreen in a cluster for fast, easy access.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The new Motoluxe is the more advanced of the two. The phone is elegant and slim-line with a high resolution 4 inch touchscreen that guarantees ‘superior web browsing’, a front-facing VGA camera and an 8 MP rear camera with incorporated flash for high quality images. The device also features a lanyard groove and notification light to alert the user when a message is received or a call missed. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>The Motoluxe is slightly lighter than Apple’s iPhone 4S but heavier than the new Motorola Defy Mini which is the latest addition to the company’s durable range. An Android 2.1 phone, the  lightweight Defy has a smaller display, featuring a 3.2 inch LCD screen, a 5MP camera and up to 32 GB of microSD storage.</p>

<p>Grant Burrows from 2u.co.uk, gadget insurance experts, says ‘The reaction to both the Motoluxe and the Defy Mini from our gadget testers at this year’s CES fair was very positive. Both devices appear to be highly usable with excellent features. The only downside seems to be the slight lag that can occur when the user swipes the screen but this is fairly common with some skinned Android phones and our testers didn’t find it much of a problem.’</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>While Motorola have had considerable success with former brands such as the Motorola Razr and Motorola Droid Bionic topping the bestseller lists, Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy continue to lead the market. But could the Motoluxe and Defy Mini make a few waves?</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Grant from 2U adds, ‘The iPhone is so popular and difficult to beat because it has become such a status symbol but the Samsung Galaxy is still gaining popularity so these new handsets may also make their mark. Motorola haven’t announced the price of either phone yet but while budget phones like the Defy may not be the most advanced technologically they can usually offer excellent value for money, so Motorola’s latest releases could well become bestsellers over time.’</p>
